Sense Organ and Compass
Consciousness is not merely an indicator of brain function, as medicine would describe it. Nor is it simply a passive signal of remorse and guilt. It is something far greater. In my view, it is the primary sensory and driving organ of the soul. Just as sight and hearing bring us into contact with the material world, consciousness listens to what vibrates within us and also perceives what vibrates around us on an energetic level—that is, their spiritual dimension.
The level of consciousness, its sensitivity, is the level and sensitivity of the soul and of the human being. Based on its perceptive capacity and its purity, consciousness analyzes and processes information. It does so with increasing subtlety and precision the purer and more luminous it is, and the higher the soul stands on the evolutionary spiritual ladder. When consciousness is permeated by the darker aspects of human nature, it becomes clouded and can no longer see, feel, or intuit clearly, nor can it radiate purity, kindness, and wisdom.
Through consciousness, each of us both perceives and emits our own unique frequency. Through it, we attract or repel events and people. It determines the quality of our thoughts and, consequently, their effects on our life and our health. It also determines our choices in life. This is why I like to say that consciousness functions as a compass on the journey back to the spiritual state of bliss that the soul lost through its fall and its forgetfulness.
I will return to the subject of consciousness many times in future reflections.
